MTB Cerro de la Gloria, 2016

MTB Cerro de la Gloria, 2016

Last June 12 I went to this mountain route trip on bicycle, it's just passing the MTB track La Gloria, on the outskirts of CastaΓ±os, Coahuila.

It's kind of steep in some sections, the route is about 8 miles round to this little rock chapel on the top of that formation of hills. The distance is almost nothing, but gets way heavy for the rough terrain, and loose rocks make it harder to keep on wheels without falling on certain sections.

I've never gone to this route trips on bike, it was good I've been doing exercise lately if not I wouldn't be telling about the experience. I walked some sections because of the ground, perhaps I didn't want to risk hurting me.

One of the biggest and dumbest mistakes I did was to take another road thinking other people took it, so when almost at the top I looked down and saw people on the other way of that fork. So here it goes, I decide cutting the way by going down the hill on foot carrying and dragging my bike just to making it more exciting as if it wasn't enough. So I crossed among medium rocks, loose rocks, thorns, and this kind of poison ivy plant that itched on my legs, not as bad as Californian poison ivy and yeah! the risk of finding a rattle snake around there. There was this complete silence moment when I stopped, looked up and then down the hill and thought I was at the middle of it, and seemed not to end. Should I go up or keep going down?, so I went down until the nightmare ended.

I think having sort of good physical condition helped a lot, on Monday I was OK moving without pain, as my bike doesn't have suspension, and also the gears on it did the job. I think I've never demanded the bike on terrains like that before, I barely use it at the streets.

Now I know how to get there, and going back, and learned not trying to make new paths but using the ones that already exist.

There were this little palms on a hill near there, It was kind of amazing. Somebody told me there is this little palms forest going deeper into the mountain. Hope to see it soon.

Here is the route and some pics of the terrain and desert vegetation.
